In regards to Iowa’s leaders putting jobs before politics, I have this to ask – FOR WHOM?
The “Fairness for High-Skilled Immigrants Act” DOES NOTHING for hard working Americans and the ‘ROW’ (rest of the world.)
According to the Congressional Research Service, Senate bill S386, the “Fairness for High-Skilled Immigrants Act of 2019”, if passed, would result in India getting over 90% of available green cards FOR A DECADE or more. This would surely destroy diversity in our employment-based green card system as citizens from the rest of the world will see their green card applications sitting in limbo for many years to come.
Eliminating PER COUNTRY QUOTAS would create the following (entirely predictable) set of conditions:
1. America’s policy of diversity in immigration would be replaced by an India-first policy – India would get nearly a 100 percent of employment-based green cards for a time, eventually stabilizing at around the 75 percent level;
2. The backlog that today affects only India, China, and the Philippines, would start to negatively affect people from all other countries;
3. No one would be able to get an employment-based green card directly. They would have to get an H-1B or L visa first; and finally;
4. The green card backlog would shrink only for India, while their pain would be transferred to the rest of the world.
